The Forgery

Should they take it down?

The Forgery

A painting hangs in a museum. Millions of people have stood in front of it and been moved. Then it comes out that it's a copy, painted forty years ago by a student who was very good. The original burned in a fire. Nothing about the canvas on the wall has changed since yesterday.

Should they take it down?

Then ask

  • If you'd cried in front of it, would you feel cheated?
  • What if the forger was the better painter?
  • Is there something you own that you'd stop loving if you learned it wasn't the real one?

The classics and some new ones. A scenario, the question it forces, and the follow-ups that make it bite.
