Before You Knew Who You'd Be

What rule would you write that would cost your actual family something?

Before You Knew Who You'd Be

You get to redesign the rules about money and family before you're born: how much a parent can pass to a child, what school you're entitled to, who pays for whose care in old age. You write the rules first. Then you're dropped into a random life somewhere in the country you actually live in. Could be the one you have. Could be much worse.

What rule would you write that would cost your actual family something?

Then ask

  • Would you cap what your parents can leave you? What if it's the house?
  • What have you got that you'd struggle to defend to someone who was born without it?
  • Is there help you've had that you tell people you didn't have?

The classics and some new ones. A scenario, the question it forces, and the follow-ups that make it bite.
