The Better Life, Plugged In
There's a machine. Lie down in it and you get the life you'd have chosen: the work going well, the person who left still there, your body behaving, your parents proud. It feels exactly like real life from the inside. You won't remember the machine. Your body is looked after. The people you leave behind are told you're fine, and in a sense you are.
