The Box in the Loft

Which of your things stops being what it is once you're not around to say why?

The Box in the Loft

Everything you own ends up with someone who wasn't there for any of it. A ticket stub, a chipped bowl, a jumper you wore for eleven years. To them it's a bowl. To you it's a specific Sunday. Nothing about the objects changes; the stories just stop coming with them.

Which of your things stops being what it is once you're not around to say why?

Then ask

  • What did you bin from a dead relative's house that you now wish you'd kept?
  • Have you ever told anyone the story behind one of these things, or is that the point?
  • What would you rather someone kept, the thing or the story?

The classics and some new ones. A scenario, the question it forces, and the follow-ups that make it bite.
