Your Own Instructions
You are asked to write down, tonight, how much of you can be gone before someone is allowed to stop the machines. Not in general terms. In your handwriting, with the line drawn: can't speak, can't recognise anyone, can't feed yourself, can't stop the pain. The paper will be shown to your family on the worst day of their lives.
Where do you draw the line?
Then ask
- Name the person you would trust to follow it. Why not the others?
- Who in your family would fight it, and what would they say about you?
- It takes twenty minutes to write. What has stopped you?
