Who Pays for Mum

What split do you propose, and do you say your own number first?

Who Pays for Mum

Your mother needs care she can't pay for. The cost splits three ways between you and your siblings on paper, but you earn more than both of them and one of them has kids. Nobody has said out loud who pays what. Someone has to speak first at the kitchen table on Sunday.

What split do you propose, and do you say your own number first?

Then ask

  • Name the sibling you think will pay least. Is that fair, or just how it'll go?
  • Would you rather pay the whole thing and never mention it, or pay a third and argue?
  • What do you want back for the money, honestly?

The classics and some new ones. A scenario, the question it forces, and the follow-ups that make it bite.
